Department of Community Development

The City’s Community Development Department oversees applications, licenses, and permits in the City related to home improvement and major construction projects, transportation and housing programs, and business licenses. The Department is comprised of the following Divisions: Advance Planning, Current Planning, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Building and Safety.

The Advance Planning/Economic Development Team is responsible for maintaining the City’s General Plan and Development Code, provides business relocation assistance, economic development guidance, and serves as the City's Liaison to the business community. 

The Current Planning Team, in partnership with the Building & Safety team, administer and implement the Cerritos Municipal Code as it relates to development plans, subdivisions, tract and parcel maps, zone changes, conditional use permits and variances, and provides guidance to architects, builders, contractors, engineers and the general public concerning the City’s development policies and standards.

The GIS Team provides a high level of comprehensive GIS services to all City departments, specifically working with the Department of Community Development for Mapping services and Permitting functions.
